Hair tips- DIY simple turban

I have been really tempted to use edge tamer and/or gel because the braids along the hairline is getting frizzy the loser they get and I have flyways soo.. I applied pure aloe vera gel to damp hair and voilà c'est tout !

But I also wanted to style the braids in someway so I grabbed a pair of black stockings (I couldn't find a black headscarf) and made it into a turban.

Who would have guessed??

Do you use the braiding hair straight out of the package and to prevent it from unraveling you burn the ends or put rubber bands?

Well that is not my cup of tea. To give the ends of your braids a natural look and prevent them from unraveling here's a small tip;

Before: This is how it looks like after its been cut into half, on part has been fixed though.

After: When braiding with this adjusted piece of hair you will definitely see a difference.

The hair won't unravel as hard as usually and the ends will have that natural look. Especially when sealing them by using the hot water method which is simply done by dipping the braids in pre boiled water.

So how do you do it?

When you have your section if braiding hair in your hand put it on your lap/flat surface and slightly pull strands of hair. Do not pull it all the way out, just slightly. Continue until you see that the ends are getting even and smooth the hair section.

YOU SHOULD NOT BE LEFT WITH HALF OR LESS OF THE AMOUNT OF HAIR YOU SECTIONED OUT..

Pineapple/CG method for medium & short hair

Pineapple and CG method is a way of preserving your coils and/or curls easily. And now that my hair texture has changed and is now more tightly coiled CG/ pineapple method helps me keeping my coils popping. We all love popping coils :)

But for me to get the best result with the shrinkage I am facing I need to do it in sections. I do it on washday after the LOC and every other day that I wear my hair out, which is from time to time.

You can use any rubber band/ponytail holder of your choice but avoid those with metal since they can snag and cause breakage. If you want to use thread, that's fine too.

Since my hair shrinks a lot I always stretch it after washday. I mostly do the threading or banding method. Threading is faster and gives a straighter stretch, banding gives you a slightly wavy stretch.

To make it easier you can twist and then bun your sections, that's less time consuming then the two other stretching methods.

Hair journey Essentials- Refill bottles

Spray, pump, lid bottles etc are very much needed when you are on your hair journey.

At first I thought that I needed to buy them myself but guess what, you don't have to! I want to how you guys that taking care of your hair, and body doesn't have to ruin you. This is very useful for everyone especially if you are a student or simply don't want to spend too much money.

Here are all my refill bottles that I use, some of them are already in use and others is just for stock.

1: An old ACV bottle that I bought from Ica (Sweden).

2: A VERY VERY old braid something bottle from Donna Clara. Idk that brand..

3: Plant spray bottle from JYSK (Sweden). I think it was 3 for 10kr or 20kr.

4: Victoria Secret's body splash bottle. I use this to my DIY moisturizing spritz.

5: The first one is a spray bottle and the second one is a bottle with lid. These two was bought together with other refill bottles in one package. I don't remember the price but they was bought at ÖoB (Sweden).

Otherwise you can get refill bottles and jars at amazon and other online shops. If you stay outside USA I would suggest you to go to their UK page.

Aloe vera gel - Trial

Today I bought a travel size of aloe vera gel from the pharmacy, lloyds apotek in Sweden.

I have tried it before but it was in the DIY leave in spray, I really liked it! But the one I tried had white stuff in it:/ or maybe I had aloe vera juice.. Anyway there seem to be MANY ways to use it. I want to take down my braids so then I might use aloe vera as gel to style my puff?

If you have any tips, feel free to share. I need all the tips you have! :)

Vegetables:

This broccoli soup is an easy and tasty way to eat your veggies. My siblings liked it too so you know it's real lol.

• Boil potatoes, carrot and broccoli in 3 different casseroles. Make sure to salt the water.

You don't want them to be mushy, just al dente if it makes any sense to you..

• Put all of the ingredients in a mixer or use a hand mixer as I do. I found it to be easier that way.

• Boil water with 1 bouillon cube in it, this is to add flavor to the soup so you don't need to follow the instructions on the package.

• Stir together the mashed vegetables and cream to your desired consistency. Add the bouillon.

Voilà!

*Sometimes I add some broccoli bouquets and fried potato cubes to give the soup some texture.

Fruits:

We had many different kinds of fruit at home that was just laying there so I decided to do something about it.

• Fruit salad, anybody can make one. Pick fruits if your choice and cut them in desired shapes and sizes.

I used red apple, banana, Galia melon and pineapple. If you are using fruits such as banana, apples etc that turns brown when peeled then you MUST pour syrup over the fruit salad. Unless you want brown fruit in there..

You can make homemade that was super easy or store bought, the homemade version taste just the same.

•Freezed fruits: The pineapple and Galia melon have a lot of fruit so I saved some and I also saved all of the strawberries, blueberries and raspberry since they was getting mushy.

You simply cut them into pieces and put them in plastic bags and store in the freezer. They can be used for sorbets, smoothies, instead of ice cubes, milkshakes and etc.

Luckily or unfortunately I can eat what I want whenever I want without gaining weight, the way my food intake is set up.. Y'all would see me rolling lol.

I am a skinny girl with a biig appetite, but don't let it fool you. Skinny or fat doesn't matter it's all about your health.

Healthy hair comes before growth for me, and with healthy hair comes growth. To keep my hair healthy I stick to the things that works for my hair and do my best to drink more water and eat more vegetables and fruits.

I have some tips to share that has been helpful for me.

Water:

• Fill a glass, container, glass jar, bottle etc with ice or plain cold water.

• Take your fruits/vegetables/herb of choice. Lemon, lime, cucumber, berries is what I have tried so far.

• Add the fruits etc and crush or shake it a little bit.

This gives the water a pleasant taste and it really works for me. A tip is to clean the peel before using them or else it might give the water a bitter taste.

Vegetables:

I used to hate broccoli, I found it disgusting but now I eat it almost very week!

• Boil broccoli in pre boiled and salted water for about 10 minutes. If necessary salt it again, spray some oil or put some butter on it.

• Broccoli soup, put boiled broccoli and potatoes in a mixer together with some salted water. Mix it into a purée and add cream. Heat it and it's ready to eat.

You can add other vegetables of your choice.

• Broccoli pie, make a food pie with broccoli, cheese, ham the list on what you can add is long.

For a more healthy pie, use whole grain flour instead.

Fruits:

• Juice, a juicer is a really good tool to have. In minutes you can make your own homemade juice with any fruit and vegetables if your choice. And yes it taste as good as store bought juice! With no sugar added.

Apple and kiwi is an easy and oh so delicious recipe.

Product junkie Hiss eller diss- Proffs Maximum Strong Mousse

I used to be a product junkie, buying almost everything with good reviews on the net. I've learned and I've lost lol. So this blog cathegory will be a so called hiss eller diss as we say in swedish.. Now there are many products I could put on here but I'm only gonna take the one's I used correct and for a long time enough to know that they didn't/did work.

Proffs Maximum Strong Mousse

This is another product junkie product lol, but I liked it. When the bun was my favourite this product helped to smooth and keep my hair straight ( I used to flat iron it at that time). Unfortunately I can't say so much more about it since I do not use it any longer.

Pros:

Contains E and B vitamin, keratin, castor oil and silk protein.
Gives a nice hold to the hair without leaving it with a white residue and keeping it crunchy.

Cons:

Not sure of how natural the ingredients mentioned are.
Leaves my hair greasy.

Where to buy it?

In Sweden you can get it at H&M, Kicks ( http://m.kicks.se/proffs/maximum-strong-mousse-p4980) and Åhléns. For the one outside Sweden I don't know :/

How I smooth my hair- Results & Tips

This is my result and as you can see my hair is mostly 4c/VIII and my hair haven't been braided or twisted so those two curls is like that by themselves (my edges.. They are slowly growing though) .

Tips:

Less is more. Really, you might mess it up if you use too much off that gel and I don't know about you but I don't have the time to wash my hair or finding another hair style to do.
It is much easier to work with clean, moisturized hair than dry or dirty hair. Already moisturized hair also saves you time.
Work with your hair in sections. Saves you time when you are used to doing it and your full head is covered with products you use.
Be careful when pulling the headband since we don't want to pull hairs off. Ouchless headbands seems to be good but I haven't tried it out yet so I can't tell for sure.
When buying the boar bristle brush inspect it first before buying. Look at the bristles and make sure that they are strong and won't fall off after using it.
Look for the Shea butter in different stores to find a good prize, I buy mine for 40 Swedish crowns at an african store in Stockholm (Aspudden).

Where to get it?

The hair products was purchased at an african store in Stockholm (någonstans vid T-centralen, tror att den heter Ebony) but you can get it online also.

A boar bristle brush can be bought anywhere where you can purchase hair products.

The hairband is from H&M, the thin but wide one's (about 1 cm wide). I think it's 3 for about 30-40 Swedish crowns. Unfortunately I don't know if H&M still sells them.
